The first one came with a broken lid hinge, missing parts and too many problems to note. Amazon replaced it with no problem and the second one has been great. We use this as our main grill until we can afford a bigger one. Then, it will be used just what it's made for - taking everywhere. I would like the grill to be easier to fit into the box, but overall I really like it. Handle gets too hot to carry once its been going, so a glove is good to take with it.

I did alot of research before ordering this grill and that has all paid off now that it is in use and being enjoyed by my friends and family.

The Grill is well designed,made from heavy gauge steel(150lbs),well made(mfginChina) .Requires extensive time to assemble (3+hrs)

MY most liked features is the wide range of control that unit has of the charcoal fire bed in relation to the cast iron grill.From searing to smoking all as easy as pushing a lever up or down.

Cast iron grill is in three sections so you can add coal to the firebed without removing food

Not the most handsome of BBQ Grills but very functional and easy to maintain/clean because of the removable ash drawer.

Now the negitive side of my experience with amazon and thier system to keep us the customer informed about the status of our order. Well they Amazon supplied me with an erroneous tracking number and it took me three days and many phone calls and emails only to betold by amazon contact person that my unit had been damaged in shippment. After carefull inspection buy the shiping Co(CEVA).it was deterimined that my shipment had not been damaged after all. The shipper CEVA Transportations attention to my problems saved the day (not Amazon.)

The retractable fire screen dome is an improvement we appreciate; the wheels and handle make it very easy to move into our storage area; the heavy duty cast iron pit is very durable as we learned from our earlier experience.

I purchased my first Kay iron hearth 5 years ago. I was extremely happy with it. During the 5th year, the iron grate on the lid rusted out. One of the rear legs rusted off as well. Nome-the-less, the hearth was such a pleasure to have during that 5-year time period, I said all along that if I could find another one like it, I would buy it in a minute. I was disappointed that I couldn't find the same "wheel-barrel" type anywhere. Then fortunately I found my paperwork from the original purchase, searched Google and found the exact same product. I was ecstatic. I purchased it right away, and look forward to using it again in the Spring. Hopefully some of the rusting issues will have been improved upon over the last 5 years. But even if I get the same life out of this new one, I'll be happy.

I like my Kay fire pit and use it often. My suggestion to the manufacturer would be to provide better hardware. It comes with cheap steel fastners and the heads are so small they almost fit throught the openings in the kettle and they rust, especially after being exposed to the heat of the fire and sit in wet ashes. I would like to see larger heads on bolts, larger washers and stainless steel hardware. Of course, a trip to the hardware store would resolve my issue. People complain about the legs falling off. The cheap fastners is probably why that happens in most cases. Mfg. support is very good, so I hear.

The firepit was fine for the first few months, then all of a sudden, a leg fell off. I thought it was a loose screw or something, but it turned out that an entire chunk of the metal fell off where the leg was secured. There was a large hole in the bottom of the pit. The metal is very brittle and low quality. Avoid this piece of junk.

My older Meco grill was built much better than this one. There is alot thinner metal on this new grill. It is not as sturdy and the metal gives more. It is alot lighter than my older one. It cost twice as much as my old one but, it was made alot cheaper. It is hard telling how long this one is going to last. Keep this in mind if you want to buy one of these. I was very disappointed with this grill.

I purchased my first Meco Grill (22 years ago)from the base exchange in Germany while stationed there with the Air Force. I purchased my current one about 10 years ago but only used it once or twice a year prefering to use my gas grill, but things have changed. I used it about two months ago to cook chicken using my father-in-laws secret recipe and my 14 year old son asked what I did to the chicken because it was really good. Since then I have been on a charcoal BBQ cooking binge. I have done roasts, steaks, chicken, and vegetables on the grill. The grill really cuts out the flare ups I experience on a gas grill and holds the heat in very well. I have used smoke chips and the grill keeps the smoke in and really gives the food that wonderful smokey flavor. I don't think I will go back to gas unless I am in a hurry. My wife says it has only taken me 19 years of marriage for me to finally use the charcoal grill and the Meco is the best. I really like the adjustable grate and the bottom grate for the charcoal.

This is the third one of these that we have bought. (This one was a present.) It has all of the features that you might want. The grill can be raised or lowered depending on the heat of the fire. It has vents that can be opened with the lid down so that chicken doesn't burn. When you are done, you can close the vents to put out the fire and salvage the remaining charcoal. It has wheels so that it can easily be moved around. What I don't understand is why the black version costs $40 more than the red one.

This is a well-made grill with some real quality features. Its grilling surface is cast iron and not the typical metal grate; it can be oiled, and each of the three separate sections can be lifted out independently. The grill is large and accommodates a number of different items during grilling. The ash receptacle is more difficult to clean than the usual grill, since it has no bottom opening to clear ashes; the receptacle has to be lifted out and cleaned after use. It took a while to assemble the grill, and it was very heavy; I couldn't lift it up the stairs to our deck by myself. One of the integral supports inside the barrel on which rests the movable charcoal grate was bent on arrival and required replacement of the entire lower barrel of the grill -- too much of a task to accomplish with the grill already assembled, although Masterbuilt cheerfully sent a replacement part along with some of the screws that were missing from the assembly kit. The built-in temperature gauge is a plus. I am very happy with it from a cooking and appearance standpoint after two+ months of use.
